Many in US react to Chuckie Taylor Imprisonment

Many Liberians in the United States are expressing delight over the news that a Miami court on Friday sentenced the son of former President Charles Taylor, Charles Emmanuel McArthur Taylor, also known as “Chuckie”, to 97 years in federal prison. He was sentenced following conviction last October on charges of torture and other human rights abuses in Liberia. “I am glad that the Liberian people have finally received some justice,” said Nyeah Ukatu, a Liberian immigrant living in Boston. The case is the first of its kind in the United States, which is based on a 1994 law that makes it a crime for citizens to commit torture overseas.
