People to People Campaign Praises TRC Report


ATLANTA, GA 07/20/09:The People to People Campaign for Peace and Democracy in Liberia (PPCPDL) will like to commend the Chairman and members of the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission (TRC) for a job well done. The Campaign carefully read the report
and is pleased with all of the analysis and recommendation as inscribed in the
document.


The Campaign support the construction of Palava Huts in all
electoral districts of Liberia for the successful holding of Town Hall Meetings
where relatives of victims and perpetrators of crimes can meet and further
discuss reconciliation and bury their differences. The setting up of a National
Truth and Reconciliation Commission is worth noting.


The Campaign also strongly support the 30 years ban on Liberians from holding public office who
finance the Liberian civil war and a trial for war crimes for leaders of
warring faction who destroyed lives and properties intentionally.


The time has come for all Liberians to realize that enough
is enough and that there are consequences for bad behavior in our common
patrimony.


The Campaign is hoping that the Legislature will act on the
recommendation of the TRC in the interest of the Liberian people. Any attempt
by the people’s leaders to deny them justice will be a clear signal to them
that they will have to use their votes in 2011 wisely.
