Few days ago I read Varney Sherman distancing
himself from a purported Demonstration to be held by civil society
against corruption and abuse of power by some Government officials in
Liberia. My professor called me from Canada and asked me whether I heard
that there will be a demonstration in Monrovia on April 12, 2013. I
told her indeed I heard about the demonstration and I think it will be
peaceful provided the government of
Liberia don't provoke the demonstrators and that the demonstrators don't
misbehave. I support civil society, political parties and ordinary
Liberians right to peacefully assemble and voice out their concerns when
their elected officials are not during what is right.
It is
my ardent hope that the April 12 demonstration will remind government
officials and other Liberians that we as Liberians are tired with
corruption and abuse of public offices by public officials as means to
an end.
I am calling on the Ministry of Justice to provide
security and work the organizers of the demonstrators so that April 12
peaceful rally will be held in the spirit of one accord.
