HB, YOU CAN CALL THE PEKIN FOR THE DETAILS OH.... Isaac5 ISAAC TELLS HIS SIDE OF CHURCH STORY by Somahn Dahn
26-06-2008

About a month ago, the BC carried the story of a young man who was seen on a video clip shouting and then being escorted out of the Ebenezer Church in Brooklyn Center.

Wow.. that is so disappointing. I can't condone getting upset and making a scene in church. It is just not fair or courteous to the rest of the worshipping congregation.
But the actions of the pastor are not at all aligned with the plan of God to welcome all into HIS house.

James 2:1-4
1 My brethern, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus, Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.

2 For if there should come into your assembly, a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come a poor man with fillthy clothes,

3 and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him,
"You sit here in a good place," and say to the poor man, "You stand there," or "Sit here at my footstool,"

4 have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

How do we expect to encourage our youth to come to church when we make them feel unwelcome. Christ said,
"Suffer the little children to come unto Me." Luke 16:18

Wha kinna thing is that mehnn! The pastor truly owes the young man, and his congregation an apology.

JAMES 2:12-13
12 So speak and act as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.

13 For judgement is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgement.

Ephesians 6:4
4 And fathers, do not provke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

The church needs to open the doors to save souls...souls that wear ear rings and braids, souls that sell their bodies to survive and souls that wear Armani suits alike.

You sure can Nica. I agree with you whole heartily. A lot of pastors think the church belongs to them and they fail to realize it belongs to God.

Yes Nica, brings me back to what was quoted in the other thread (http://liberian-village.com/main-room-the-village-f1/rebel-mn-one-caught-in-church-t806-15.htm)

(1 Samuel 16:6–7)

When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, 'Surely the Lord's anointed stands here before the Lord.' But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'

Well, just got a tongue lashing and then a letter from a concerned Liberian which I am still thinking of publishing. I also called the pastor concerned and he told me that he is still wondering what my aim is at about this story.

I simply said, "It is a story, it is not about you, as in I want to get at you. I know you, you are a good man."

That's interesting... I wonder who is making the dictates as to what is a "woman's attire and what is a "man's attire".

That passage was intended to prohibit such perversions as transvestism under religious auspices. It was not catering to the casual and superficial whims of fashion trends.

We know that in many African cultures jewelry and many other types of ornate adornment are common and traditional among
both men and women. At the time that the bilical James was speaking of
not showing partiality, men of the church wore jewelry, as as sign of
wealth and prestige. They would even rent more rings to be more
presentable or impressive.

The young man did take the jewelry off when asked. So why the further scrutiny about his hair? Who dicated that braids were only for women. Seems a bit realtive and flimsy contention for basing a policy of exclusion from the church on.

There areseveral laws in the Old Testament that we must be carful about adhering to for the new covent brought about a cease to our being bound by them.

Romans 7:6

6 But now we have been
released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound,
so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the
letter.

Those laws once dictated that it was lawful for a man to put away his wife for any and every reason (Matthew 19: 1-9) But Christ said that "Moses permitted you to put away your wives because your hearts were hard."

There was a reasoning behind the law that was man's, not God's. With the coming of Christ came change and liberty from laws that bind our hearts and spirits into acts that are contrary to God's desires that None should perish.

Many practices are an "Abomination to God" Deut.2 2:5
But it is our commission to teach and guide those participating in them to a better way..to His way. How can we do that if we don't open the doors of the church to them. "My people perish for lack of knowlrdge.
Hosea 4:6

If that is a church policy, it should
be re-evaluated. Great is the price the shepard will pay when the sheep
in his care he turns away.

Well, I thought the young was put out of the church for trying to be violent. From the brother article, it seem that Rev. Tablah put Mr. Tomah out of the church because of the wearing. For me i want to get the facts and from there reach an inform conclusion.

Seems like he got PUT out for disturbing. He was told he could not sing because of his hair and earings which caused him to begin disturbing.

So it is not clear as to whether he was asked to leave because of the attire or the disturbance or both. scratch

Seems like both parties used poor judgment in handling the situation. Though I feel the pastor had every right and responsibilty to clear the church of the distrurbing factor once it presented itself, for whatever reason it presented itself.

Tomah was noisy and out of order. He could have handled himself differently instead of yelling and try to be out of order. But, from the pastor's standpoint, his way of stopping the youngsters, was not tactful.

He told me that he was not mad with Tomah, but with the church member who brought tomah in without letting him know the church's rules and regulations.

I think everbody acted less than appropriate. But the fuss is over and will be forgotten eventually. I just think the bigger and more lasting issue is the negative effects of having an open policy of exclusion based on those " rules and regulations".

How will he blame his congregation members for extending the hand of fellowship to another soul? That's part of the Great Commission.
How many people you think will take you up on your invitation to come to your church when you say,"You muh come but you can't wear this thing and you can't be that thing etc.

I think The Liberian community needs and independent voice such as BS to watch some of these manipulating preachers, using the pulpit for self-interest and brain washing poor uncritical thinkers in our small communites…you should create a religion or faith section and investigate some of the things coming out of these churches…they will say you are working for the devil, but yeah!!! better expose the devil in the church soon…[/size]
