The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home. The Child and Youth Protection and Development (CYPD) unit comprises three sub-sectors - Education, Child Protection and Youth and Livelihoods. Working in partnership with local communities, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Gender and Development, and the Ministry of Labor, the IRC Liberia CYPD program aims to increase access to education and livelihood opportunities, and to create a protective environment for children and youth. The CYPD unit is currently responding to the ongoing refugee emergency in Liberia. The response has been focused on assisting refugees from neighboring Cote d’Ivoire, who have fled their country after the disputed presidential election. IRC is currently expanding programming into Grand Gedeh County in the area of child protection and education.
