UN Boss Urges Liberia to Ensure Transparency in Concession Contracts

(Monrovia-Liberia-Oct 1, 08)-The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General (SRSG) in Liberia, Ambassador Ellen M. Loj has called on the Liberian government to ensure the full implementation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS). Ambassador Loj said it is not just enough for government to put together what she referred to as a piece of paper but equally important to ensure the implementation of the document. The UN Envoy made the assertion Wednesday at the regular briefing of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) held at its headquarters in Sinkor, Monrovia. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 was the fifth anniversary of UNMIL. She said the international community can only support Liberia but cannot do it all, saying only the government and people of Liberia can ensure that the PRS is implemented.
